This is an 11″ World War Bushcraft Khukuri | Genuine Hand-Forged Wooden Handle Kukri by Ex Gurkha Khukuri. This 2nd World War Wooden Handle khukuri (also called Kukri or Khukri by many people outside Nepal) is one of the very famous khukuri of the Nepalese Army. The khukuri first originated in Nepal. It was very much popular that Nepal alone wouldn’t meet the demands of the khukuri itself. Later, it was imitated by the Indian Army and was produced in Dehradoon on large scale during World War II and was also known as the “The Dehradun Khukuri”.
The World War khukuri has one of the most beautiful shapes due to a more curved front part of the blade. It is slightly larger than the current issue of the Gorkha Army and was more in use during the World War days in the past. The blade is hand forged from highly graded 5160 carbon steel and has a balanced oil-quenching temper with a rat tail tang rosewood handle.
The notch (kaura or kaudi) in the blade near the hilt of most khukuris serves as a conduit for the blood on the blade to drip out, thus preventing it from soiling the hilt and as well as a device for catching and neutralizing an enemy blade.
This 11″ World War Bushcraft Khukuri has two pockets on the back of the scabbard which hold a blunt steel called “chakmak” for sharpening the blade or for creating a spark by striking a spark with a flint and a little knife known as “karda” used for skinning small animals such as rabbits.
