This is a 5″ Panawal Biltong Khukuri (also called kukri or khukri by many people outside Nepal). It has a small 5-inch unpolished blade made from highly graded 5160 carbon steel with oil quenching temper. There is a strong full tang handle made from hard rosewood and is 5-inch in length. The sheath for this khukuri is made from cottonwood wrapped in refined water buffalo leather.
This 5″ Blade Panawal Biltong Khukuri is named ‘Biltong’ because the blade is small & very useful in preparing strips of dried salted meat famous in South Africa & other southern African countries. It is a top-rated knife for South Africans who order most of these knives. It is also used for cutting vegetables and meat in the kitchen or outdoors. You can also use it as a pocket utility knife for small tasks like skinning, opening cans & letters, etc.
The khukuri is handmade by Kaamis who mostly belong to the “Bishwakarmas” clans who are the inheritors and the successors of the art of khukuri making using the top quality materials in a traditional method with traditional hand tools.
