This 11″ Black Historical 2 Chira Khukuri (also called kukri or khukri by most people outside Nepal) is built to endure extreme force and to execute with maximum impact. The “chira” meaning fuller in English makes the knife light and fast while using it. The khukuri shape is very similar to the famous World War series khukuris and the blade is broader for bigger & better impact. This Black Historic khukuri is the combination of the two most successful and advanced product & features of EGKH which are the Angkhola version (fuller) knives and the defensive & protective hand guard full-flat-tang hilt respectively.
The complete fuller Angkhola version from notch to tip area on the surface level is designated to give more strength and durability to the width of the blade while using the khukuri. However, this khukuri also has a uniquely distinct handle where the metal of the blade in the handle area is flat and not narrow but pointed as in other knives (full flat tang). The blade is therefore visible all around the handle. The handle is joined strongly to the blade with three metal rivets that can also be seen at the sides.
Here at EGKH, all of our products are hand-made in Nepal by well-experienced Kaamis (blacksmiths) from mostly the Bishwakarmawho are born kukri makers, using only high-quality materials, and using traditional methods and hand tools. The blade is 11-inch long whereas the handle is 5.5inch long with an overall length being 16.5-inch. The blade is made from 5160 high carbon steel with a black shine. The blade is forged to minimize rust with an oil quenching tempered. The edge of the blade is a satin finish and the rest of the body has a raw finish. The full tang handle has a tight grip with a guard having a high hilt for the protection of the user’s hand. The weight of this kukri with the scabbards is 1300 grams.
A set of utility knives Karda and Chakmak come along with this khukuri. All the parts like the khukuri, scabbard and utility knives (Utility Knife + Sharpener) are perfectly made and even the utility blades are oil-quenching tempered. There is a blunt knife “chakmak” for sharpening the blade & for striking spark with a flint and a little knife known as “karda” used for skinning small animals such as rabbits & hares. Besides carrying the knife in wartimes, this blade can be used to chop wood & bones, clear bushes, etc.
