This is 12″ American Eagle Traditional Angkhola Khukuri. American Eagle is an exciting and exaggerated name, “American Eagle” is given to denote the specialty of the knife as a signifier of one of the world’s most respected and feared predators that are also the symbol of freedom to Americans and others. The “Bald Eagle” found in the US land is the influential factor for the name and look of this khukuri because of the eagle’s supremacy, amazement, ferocity, and more importantly its use as an icon of the world’s most powerful word “FREEDOM”. The shape of the knife is the old Army model that was believed to have been used in world war days, particularly during the 2nd world war. This was combined with the traditional “Ang Khola” khukuri in Nepal which means to rip a body apart and is one of the popular khukuri models in Nepal. The blade is highly polished to prevent from getting rust and to look better. A special type of raw water buffalo leather is used to make the scabbard shinier, stronger, and better looking. This raw leather is not dyed and the color of the scabbard shown in the picture is natural leather color. There is a laced frog (fasten-up) with twin belt loops fitted for a smarter look. A white metal chape protects the scabbard’s naked tip and provides beauty to the knife.
How to Maintain your Khukuri?
You are requested to apply machine/gun oil on the blade at least once a month or every time after use. As Kukuries are made of carbon steel, make sure not to leave any fingerprint on the blade. The fingerprint could develop some rust on the blade. In case rust develops on the blade, rub it off with fine sandpaper, clean the dirt using some petrol, wipe it off with a clean cloth and apply oil. Both sides of the blunt Chakmak can sharpen the blade. However, a sharpening stone is recommended. Must take care not to expose the Khukuri Scabbard to the sun for a long period of time as heating may help it to shrink a bit and hence make the blade difficult to insert.
