10.5″ Historical ChainPure Village Special (Carved) Khukuri

This is 10.5″ Historical Chainpure Village Special (Carved) Khukuri (often called “Kukri” or “Khukri” in the west). The name of the kukri comes from a village named Chainpur in the Eastern part of Nepal. Chainpur village is famous for the khukuri it makes and hence the name Chainpure Khukuri.

“Chainpure Special” is a special Khukuri that has a decorative wooden scabbard that is artistically carved with patterns within. These patterns are made with traditional hand tools hence takes a lot of time in making one scabbard. The word “Special” is also because of such work done on the handle as well. Chainpure kukris are typically village kukris. The open notch that we see in most of the kukris is discarded and instead made into a see-through hole in the shape of a cow’s hoof. The notch whether open or closed resembles the cow’s hoof since the cow is holy in Nepal. The hole or notch also symbolizes the “Symbol of Fertility” believed by Hindus as the holy sign of Lord Shiva. There is a strong belief that the notch brings fortune and prosperity. A nozzle is made just in front of the notch, to work as a blood dripper.

The Chainpure also has a different handle. The stick handle goes right through and is secured by a keeper at the butt section. Some carvings identical to the scabbard are done to give an overall matching look. With the carving on the handle and scabbard, this khukuri is marked as a decorative piece. However, there is no question about its ability to be used as a domestic utility knife or a companion in the field or in the jungle.

The 10.5″ Historical Chainpure Village Special (Carved) Khukuri has a 10.5-inch hand-forged polished blade made from highly graded 5160 carbon steel. The handle is a 5-inch rat-tail tang handle made from rosewood and aluminum. The scabbard is also made of rosewood joined together by a special traditional Nepali glue called “laha“. Materials like brass and white metal are also used while making this beautiful khukuri.
