This is 11″ World War II Dehradun Khukuri | Gripper Handle Gurkha Kukri by Ex Gurkha Khukuri House. Even though this World War II Gripper Handle khukuri (also called kukri or khukri by many people outside Nepal) was first designed in Nepal, it was later imitated by the Indian Army in Dehradun during World War II for its Gorkha Rifles regiments due to its effectiveness in military combat and warfare. It became so much popular that Nepal itself could not meet the increasing demand of the khukuris & hence “Dehradun” the capital of the current Indian state of Uttarakhand took over and started producing it on a large scale. Thereafter, this World War khukuri got its name “The Dehradoone Khukuri”.

This World War khukuri has one of the most beautiful shapes due to its increased curvature from the middle of the spine of the blade. It is slightly larger than the current khukuri issued to the Gorkha Army. This khukuri was commonly in use during World War days. The khukuri has an 11-inch polished blade made from highly graded 5160 carbon steel and has a balanced oil quenching temper that makes the blade extra strong. The handle is about 5.5 inches in length and is made from water buffalo horn but also has an option for a wooden handle. The rat tail tang handle has been fixed to the metal of the blade. The scabbard is made from pinewood wrapped in water buffalo leather and has a brass tip to protect the pointed tip of the blade.

This scabbard of this khukuri has two pockets on the back that holds one blunt steel called “chakmak” for sharpening the blade or for creating sparks by striking it to a flint and a little sharp knife known as “karda” used for skinning small animals such as rabbits. The notch (kaura or kaudi) in the blade near the hilt of this khukuri serves as a conduit for the blood on the blade to drip out, thus preventing it from soiling the hilt as well as acting as place for catching and neutralizing an enemy blade.

The 11″ World War II Dehradun Khukuri | Gripper Handle Gurkha Kukri can be used to perform tasks like cutting meat, chopping wood, clearing bushes, etc. It can also be used as a tactical survival knife for people who love going on hunting & camping outdoors.
