This is an 18″ Historical Bhojpure Sacrificial Khukuri | Nepalese Handmade Camping & Hunting Kukri Knife. The Bhojpure refers to the village Bhojpur which is situated in the eastern part of Nepal. The Bhojpure khukuris were designed by people in Bhojpur and later became famous all over the country. It is slightly bigger and heavier than the standard khukuri with a wide blade, unlike the Sirupate Khukuris.

The Bhojpure khukuri (also called kukri or khukri by most people outside Nepal) later became a sacrificial series of kukri that were huge khukuri which was used in religious sacrificial ceremonies in Nepal. Mostly this would be used in late September/early October during the biggest festival in Nepal called “Dashain”. According to Hindu mythology, the evil was killed and its blood was presented to the God of Anger. Following this mythological belief,  goats and water buffalos are sacrificed to please God during this festival. This khukuri (kukri) is used during sacrificial ceremonies to chop the head of male buffaloes or goats. It is strongly believed that he who is performing this ritual has to do it in one blow otherwise it will bring bad omen for him and his entire family.

The craftsmanship on this 18″ Historical Bhojpure Sacrificial Khukuri is amazing. So if you are looking for the finest quality khukuri you will not be disappointed with this. The scabbard comes with two pockets on the back of it one of which hold a blunt steel called “chakmak” for sharpening the blade or for creating a spark by striking it to a flint and the other holds a little knife known as “karda” used for skinning, cutting paper and opening letters & cans. Overall it is a perfect hunting knife and camping gear to carry.

The notch (kaura or kaudi) in the blade near the hilt of most khukuris serves as a conduit for the blood on the blade to drip out and thus preventing it from soiling the hilt. It is also a place for trapping and neutralizing an incoming enemy blade during hand-to-hand battles.

Note: This is a handcrafted khukuri therefore please note that each one might have slight variations in measurement. Here at EGKH, all of our khukuri & knives are hand-made in Nepal by well-experienced Kaami belonging to the Bishwakarma (traditional kukri makers) caste who are the generational inheritors and successor bladesmiths forging blades using only the best materials with traditional methods and hand tools.
