This 21 inch Traditional Sirupate 2 Chira (2 Fuller) Rust Free Khukuri (also called khukri or kukri by people with non-Nepalese accent) is a large sword that is very useful for heavy duty tasks. The khukri comes with a smaller extra utility kukri (EUK) that you can carry anywhere.
Blades:
The blades of both the khukuris are made from 5160 High Carbon Steel. Both blades have 2 fullers (called chirra in Nepali) which helps to reduce the weight of the khukuri while maintaining its strength & durability. The bottom part of the blades from bevel to the edge on both khukuris are polished to give extra protection to the edges from rusting. The blade of the smaller extra utility khukuri is 8 inches in length. The khukri blades are subjected to optimum heat treatment and tempered with oil quenching.
Handles:
The handles of both the khukuris are full tang. The handle on the large khukuri is 12 inches long whereas the smaller extra utility khukuri has 6 inches long handle. The long handle on the larger khukuri provides for comfortable handling while holding with both hands. Both the khukuri handles feature a guard towards the top. The guard prevents your fingers from slipping towards the blade while swinging the khukuri. The handles are made of rosewood and have small diamond patterns to provide for better grip while holding the khukuris. The handles also feature a lanyard hole with a lanyard in each which can be used to hang the khukuris or to tie the khukuri to your wrist while using it so that the khukuri doesn’t get slipped away.
Scabbards:
The khukuris come in pinewood scabbards wrapped in water-buffalo leather. Traditional Nepalese glue called laha is used as adhesive.
Uses:
This pair of khukuris are very useful and handy for a variety of tasks. The big khukuri can be used for heavy duty cutting, chopping, felling trees, logging, etc. whereas the smaller EU khukuri can be used for clearing bushes and vines, butchering meat, fruits and vegetables in the kitchen etc.
